In the ever-evolving world of contemporary art, textural and mixed media art are rapidly rising to the forefront, captivating audiences with their tactile allure and boundary-pushing creativity. Artists are increasingly blending materials—fabric, found objects, paint, resin, and digital elements—to create multidimensional works that invite viewers to not just see, but feel the art. This trend reflects a growing desire for authenticity, depth, and sensory engagement in an age of digital saturation. From richly layered canvases to sculptural wall pieces, mixed media is reshaping how we define and experience visual art.
WABI-SABI (48X60") by Tovari Designs
Tovari Designs' textural, abstract and impressionistic canvases undergo a meticulous layering process, embodying reflections on life, aspects of nature, and the delicate dance of balance. The artist employs a diverse array of materials, including acrylics, watercolors, pigments, charcoal, oils, and plaster, showcasing a rich tapestry of artistic exploration.
Through her “botanical impressions,” sculptural reliefs, asymmetric forms, and thoughtful integration of vintage lace or foliage textures, Tovari creates pieces that feel alive—imbued with the organic movement and quiet choreography of natural scenes and memories.
CHAMPAGNE SAND III (50X50") by Kelsey Irvin
“Using vintage ephemera in my work is a way to pay homage to those memories, those lives. In a world that is becoming more digital each day, I’m driven to bring new life to objects that may otherwise be lost and deteriorated in time. The challenge I seek is to maintain a balance between working with such old objects and recreating them in a contemporary artwork that holds the test of time.”
- Kelsy Irvin
After spending many years exploring a wide range of techniques and media, Kelsey Irvin has developed a unique way of incorporating drawing, painting, and collage into almost all of her work. Reaching for a balance between the past and the present, her work exudes a deep sense of nostalgia.
Kelsey Irvin exemplifies the forefront of modern textural and mixed media art. Through her sophisticated integration of vintage ephemera—such as old letters, magazines, found fabrics, leather, and found objects—into paintings that also feature oil, acrylic, graphite, resin, and collage, Irvin creates works that feel both timeless and immediate. This tactile interplay of materials and paint invites viewers to experience each piece as a visual and physical treasure hunt, where the surface reveals stories from past lives while remaining firmly rooted in contemporary aesthetics.
Detail of Acacia Thorns from Ran Adler’s Wall Installation Golden Flight V (84x22”)
Ran Adler, a Naples Florida artist, assembles a variety of natural elements into sculptural compositions that attach directly to a wall or may be free-standing. His work is spiritual, organic, sensual and richly textured. Many of Ran's pieces are commissioned and customized to the space.
Through rhythmic techniques of wiring, weaving, stringing, burning, and stitching, he reimagines these raw materials into sinuous wall hangings and sculptural forms that balance chaos with graceful structure. Drawing inspiration from spiritual traditions and meditative practices—from prayer bead formations to the swirling spirals of rivers—Adler’s creative process becomes itself a form of contemplation.
His work epitomizes key currents in today’s art scene, including the drive toward immersive, tactile experiences, and the elevation of natural, found, and handcrafted materials amid a largely digital art landscape.
Detail of Wall Installation of Bradley Sabin’s Ceramic flower assemblage on gallery wall.
An avid gardener and sculptor, Bradley Sabin finds inspiration through the nature around him. His intricate ceramic sculptures explore a metaphorical equation between the care and time needed to have a flourishing garden, and that required for human relationships, which also need to be nurtured and protected to thrive. Sabin’s forms translate nature to speak to the interior, to the human, to bridge inside and outside, and transform geometric spaces to something living, hand-touched and alive.
“The ultimate goal for me would be to have my work create the same sense of awe and wonder that is achieved when seeing something amazing in our natural world."
- Bradley Sabin
