Young artist Timothy Tien has been studying art extensively since 2000. He has studied under the direct tutalege of modern masters such as Glenn Vilppu, Karl Gnass (who teach the Old Masters and the French Academy techniques), Jove Wang (who teaches in the Chinese tradition), Sunny Apingchopong-Yang (who teaches Russian master techniques), and David Gallup, Jeremy Lipking & Scott Burdick (Contemporary American masters). Thus, Tien has become very well equipped in the techniques of 4 great lineages: classical Old Masters, the Chinese tradition, the Russian impressionist tradition, and Contemporary American impressionistic and realist techniques.

This base of knowlege has enabled Tien to achieve very high quality paintings, with exceptional brushwork, light, color and composition emenating from every one of his canvases.

Tien participated in his first group show in 2007. Shortly thereafter, he was considered one of the best new stars of the West Coast art scene. He was juried into the prestigious California Art Club in 2007 and won “First Place in Painting” in the Internationsl Art Fair in Pasadena, California. In 2008, Tim also won “First Place Award”, as well as “Best of Oil Award” in the Carmel Art Festival, one of the most established plein air painting events in the country. Since then, Tien has been juried into many plein air events and national shows, such as the annual Salon International and the annual Gold Medal exhibition.
