Born in Pittsburgh, Susan Swartz inherited her creative gene from a family of artists and musicians. She has been painting for more than 40 years.

Inspired by the natural world and the intersection of spirituality and art, Swartz paints landscapes and nature scenes that are profoundly abstract. Her distinctive style and artistic excellence have earned her international recognition. In 2005 Swartz’s work was published in Painters of the Wasatch Mountains; in 2005 she was honored by the Harvard Divinity School; and in 2002 she was commissioned to do the commemorative artwork for the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games. Corporate collectors of Swartz’s work include: Zion’s Bank, the Utah Symphony, Johnson & Johnson, the University of Pittsburgh, and the Dupont corporation. Her work is also part of several museums including the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, where she had a one woman show in January 2008. In 2007, a retrospective of Susan’s career was published, entitled Natural Revelations.

Ms. Swartz has been a part of a number of prestigious Juried Exhibitions: the Catherine Lolliard Wolff National Show at the National Arts Club; the Grande National Exhibition of the American Artist Professional League; and the Miami International Art & Design Show.

Says the artist of her work, “my paintings are profoundly abstract. I choose to paint life and the environment because I desire to examine the different forms of nature and our emotional associations with it. I paint completely from imagination. I usually start with an idea and allow it to grow. Color inspires me, also layering. My paintings have many different layers, like an onion.”
