Known for the painterly quality of his oils, Stone is an internationally recognized and honored artist with a deeply rooted respect for American realism. Spending the summer months on Monhegan Island, the famed artists island off the rocky coast of Maine, his plein air work captures the rugged beauty and sheer visual pleasure of this much-painted area.
The artist is a full member of the National Academy of Design, the American Watercolor Society, Allied Artists of America, the New England Watercolor Society, Rockport Art Association, North Shore Art Association, Hudson Valley Art Association, New York, The Copley Society, Boston, and the Guild of Boston Artists.
Stone has exhibited with all of the above, plus the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and museums across the country. His work is part of the permanent collections of Dartmouth College, Marietta College, the University of New Hampshire, and the Peabody Maritime Museum to name but a few He has won over sixty-five major awards including eight gold medals, two of which were presented by the Franklin Mint Gallery of American Art for Best Watercolor and Best Marine painting.
