John likes to paint big. His landscapes begin as pastels done on site. These pastels then become studies for his larger oils on canvas. In Stockwell's case, the term "landscape" should be interpreted somewhat loosely, as much of his work can be viewed as abstractions saturated with color. John's oils in particular are major statement paintings for the serious collector. A very partial lists of his corporate collectors include Digital Equipment Corporation, Fidelity, Harvard Business School, Gillette, Price Waterhouse, IBM and Harvard Business School.
