Painterly best describes the work of this much sought after Boothbay Harbor artist. Comfortable in a variety of media and varying subject matter, Ms. St. Clair’s bold yet sensitive brushstrokes create a soft-edged subtlety of line and color. Whether oils, watercolors or collages, she strives for a simple statement, never overworked, never labored, always soft and suggestive.

Helen finds the excitement of painting in the initial idea, working intuitively to find a balance between the subject depicted and the more abstract and ambiguous response of the artist.

Educated at Brown University and the famed Rhode Island School of Design, Helen lived for many years in Albany, NY. Since moving to Boothbay Harbor more than a decade ago, she has exhibited widely throughout the state of Maine in one-woman shows and group exhibitions. One of her paintings was recently chosen to be a permanent part of the Elizabeth Noyce Collection at the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, ME.
