Robert Stark is a painter in the luminist tradition. His paintings are reflections of how light influences a landscape: the sky, land and water. His now famous "red sails" series of catboat paintings are avidly collected. By simplifying a scene and focusing on a single element he is able to grab the viewer and bring that viewer directly into the painting. A Robert Stark painting is definitely a "stopper." A year-round resident of Nantucket, the artist when not painting in his harbor studio, can usually be found on his 24-foot bass boat, fishing the waters of Nantucket Sound.
