John Murray is an artist who focuses on the abstract quality of painting, while still maintaining his roots as a realist.
Graduating from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in 1983, Mr. Murray continued to study in the U. S. and Florence, Italy . He also trained for seven years at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing as a bank note designer, one of four in the country. His most noted accomplishment there was the portrait of Abraham Lincoln on the new five dollar note. John Murray is also a co-founder of the Bridgeview School of Fine Arts in New York City.
As a classically trained artist, Mr. Murrays choice for subject matter revolves around figure, still-life, portrait and landscape. His work is a combination of traditional subject matter, infused with bold brushwork and contemporary compositions.
To quote the artist: I hope never to be complacent with my progress as an artist, Id rather continue to challenge myself to explore new avenues of self-expression.
