Tim was born and raised in the small rural town of Yellow Springs, Ohio. After high school he fled the small town life and graduated from the prestigious Cooper Union School of Art in New York City in 1984, where his focus was graphic design. Tim also attended Yale’s summer program in Design in Switzerland and spend time touring Europe after graduation. For the next 8 years Tim worked at several design firms in New York City before moving to San Francisco in 1992.

Throughout his design career and beyond, Tim has always been in pursuit of different ways to express his aesthetic. He has done work in portrait photography, furniture making, and even made clocks and cabinets from salvaged materials, before finding his ultimate medium of expression in oil painting. He began painting full-time in 1998.

Tim’s painting reflects nostalgic “Americana”, with classic cars from the 50’s and 60’s, working farms, or a family day at the beach often depicted on his clean and clear canvasses. A Timothy Horn painting, with it’s bold color and brushwork, is not timid.

Tim has won numerous awards for his painting including most recently “Artists Choice Award”, Valona Paint Out (2008), “First Place”, Point Reyes Paint Out, (2008), “Artists’ Choice Award”, Sonoma Plein Air (2007), and was chosen for the Laguna Beach Plein Air Invitational (2008).

Tim’s work has been featured in numerous publications, most recently in American Art Collector (July 2008), and Southwest Art, “Artists to Watch”(Feb 2008).
