Ann was born and raised on Cape Cod. She started life drawing and painting with Steve Missal at Scottsdale Community College. She then moved to the Azores to receive very intensive private instruction from John Court, a well-known portrait painter.

With John’s encouragement, Ann moved to New York City and studied with David Leffel at the Art Students League. She studied full time at the League for two and a half years, and received private instruction from Mr. Leffel for one and a half years. She continued to study privately thereafter; first with George Passantino (landscape painting); Bob Johnson (life drawing); and finally, oil painting under Greg Kreutz.

In her studio, Ann uses only natural light from a north window which leaves much of what she paints in shadow. “I love the mystery that shadow creates and always try to capture it in my work”, she says. Ann prefers old objects for her still life arrangements. Figuring out the character of these objects and translating it to canvas is the essence of Ann’s still life painting.

Ann’s work has been honored by many prestigous art organizations: in 1998 she won the National Arts Club Award at the Catherine Lorrilard Wolff Show in New York City; in 1995 the Allied Artists of America awarded her the Silver Medal of Honor; and in 1994 the Salmagundi Club (NYC) bestowed on her the Jaqueline Fox award. Most recently her work has been featured in the January 2007 issue of American Artist Magazine.
