A self-taught artist born to midwestern American missionaries and raised on the island of Taiwan, Linda Ruth Dickinson draws on her transcultural heritage to create her paintings, which are a synthesis of eastern and western thoughts, traditions and values.

Translating her visions through paint on canvas or panel, Ms. Dickinsons explorations result in abstracted imagery that is both familiar, but also other worldly. In her own words: “the work acknowledges greater mysteries and wonders to be experienced and suggests an inner tranquility that observes and embraces the declaration and dialogue between Heaven and Earth.”

Her work is found in numerous private and public collections including: Christ Church Lake Forest, College of Lake County, John Deere Co., GlaxoSmithKline and Wachovia Bank. Recent exhibitions include: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Knoxville Museum of Art, Knoxville,TN; Springfield Museum, Springfield, MO; and Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. Ms Dickinson’s work was also the subject of Chicago’s Sacred Treaures, a 1996 PBS documentary on sacred art. She has been the recipient of several regional and national awards, including a 1998 Sotheby’s Award for Outstanding Work.
